Please keep the following guidelines in mind when posting your work for review or providing your opinions on someone else's work.
Posting Your Work Since this is a forum, please don't post the entirety of your 500 page epic all in one go. It will be hard for people to read in one sitting and then provide good feedback. Instead, pick a passage from your work that can be read in less than twenty minutes or so. It will also benefit readers if you ask for specific advice on your work, like checking for passive voice or word use. While you are waiting for people to review your work, check the forums and review someone else's excerpt.
Reviewing an Excerpt Be sure to include at the very least one piece of specific, constructive feedback. If you didn't like the piece, be sure to say why, and suggest a way to fix it. If you really liked it, give a reason why it worked for you and suggest a way to strengthen weaker areas or the larger work in general. If the author has specified areas they would like advice in, be sure to consider it when you provide your feedback. Be mindful of your wording when you reply. Try to not use harsh words when providing your critiques and be as constructive as you can. If you really didn't like something, don't post your reply right away. Try to find a way to articulate your reasons in a way that won't make you sound angry or abusive and concentrate on making the piece better.
If you notice am excerpt or a reply that is not appropriate for these forums or goes against these guidelines, please notify the moderators by using the report link under the offensive post (usually the "!" button).
Thank you for helping us build an effective peer review group.
